Interview – ARN-Identified Flying Objects And Alien Friends

I recently reviewed a couple of tracks by the curiously titled artist ARN-Identified Flying Objects And Alien Friends – as I loved their music so much, I decided to find out a little more about them. Read on below for more information!

By Jane Howkins

You recently released a song titled But Come On Now, which we reviewed (as well as your other track, Someone Told Me That You Were Dead). What can you tell us about these songs and where can they be purchased?

Hi Jane, I guess the songs sort of deal with the shortness of life but also celebrate the power of love. They’re both are taken from my double-album 17 BIRDS AT THE SUMMER’S GATE. For nerds like me – who prefer physical products rather than digital – the album is available on both Vinyl and CD. The easiest way to obtain it, is probably through Amazon or CDuniverse, though there might be cheaper options.

Has the pandemic hindered your work much?

I think the pandemic was a premise – it made me take the final step towards going solo and making an album on my own. Many of the songs were originally written with Redmoon in mind, but with the pandemic ravaging, rehearsing and recording as a band became impossible (it had been difficult before, due to different practical reasons).

What is the writing and recording process like for you? Have you started writing for a future EP/album yet?

I wrote a bunch of new songs during the summer. With David Myhr at the helm as co-producer (and musical genius), we’ve actually started recording some of them. I usually write music (and lyrics) quite fast. But recording them… That’s another story. Still, the plan is to release a new single in April, another in August and a full length-album at the end of the year or early in 2023.

The band has quite a unique name, where did it come from?

My bandmate Daniel from Redmoon suggested jokingly that I could call my solo project Earnie Boy and His Flying Saucers (thus maintaining the celestial imagery), and I came up with Arn-Identified Flying Objects and Alien Friends as an ironic reply. But I realized I actually liked the name.

Do you plan to release any singles in the near future?

As I mentioned before, I hope to release a new single in April.

What/who influences you most as an artist? What have you been listening to recently?

In periods of writing and recording I don’t listen to much newly released music. During the last few weeks I’ve mostly listened to early Pink Floyd albums. And Bach!

Do you have any tour dates lined up?

I look forward to playing live again, but as this is a solo project with different musicians and friends playing on different tracks, I haven’t had time to even think about performing live… And the pandemic hasn’t made that easier. But I hope to do so in the future. In 2023? Who knows? Maybe with Redmoon?

Any last words for the fans?

Apart form thanking them for listening to my music, I wish they’ll all take care and stay safe – and to look out for my new single in April, haha!
