EP Review: Greg E/Nonsegmental – NonRADIO Mental: Soul Awakening

NonRADIO Mental: Soul Awakening is a new two track EP released last month by Greg E/Nonsegmental, otherwise known as Gregory Emfietzis. The music contained on the EP is a little different from a lot of the other stuff we share here, but it’s no less important – those into their cinematic/classical music genres should check this out.

By Jane Howkins

The first song here is titled Soul Awakening, which sounds like a perfect title for the dynamics laid out in the track. It starts off very slowly, with a little piano melody running through the piece for the first third of the song. The piano builds the tension up, until the strings and tribal style percussion kick in. The song reaches a crescendo before petering out, into a haunting melody performed on the strings.

Seeking Closure is the final song here – this time it starts off with the percussion mixing with a piano melody. The orchestral moments arrive a lot sooner here, but it’s more of a subtle sound than on Soul Awakening. However, it sounds absolutely beautiful – I found myself captivated by the music on display here.

NonRADIO Mental: Soul Awakening won’t be for everyone, but if you’re into this style of music then I implore you to check it out. The music is stunningly beautiful, having a very evocative quality to it.
