Gifts From Crows is the neoclassical project of British composer Richard Laurence. They’ve featured heavily on our blog. We’re quite the fans. Their latest release combines music and dance. It’s called The Empty Mirror.

In the past, Richard has collaborated with photographer Helena Whitten and that collaboration returns in The Empty Mirror. Originally inspired by one of Helena’s photos, in the video dancer and choreographer Kristine Berget bring it to life.
Her movements work beautifully with the music, haunting and with a looping piano refrain that evokes something long lost and waiting to be rediscovered. Shot at Poltimore House, the decrepitude of something that was once so stately is a powerful image.
The Empty Mirror is everything I’ve now come to expect from Gifts From Crows, but Richard still captures my imagination with each new piece. The track is taken from his forthcoming album Stories In Slow Light and you can watch the video below.
