Though American indie alternative artist Jake Benjamin is new the blog, his collaborator on his latest track It Comes As A Friend is known to us. I had the pleasure of reviewing Carey Clayton’s album Gradually, Suddenly last Summer so it’s great to hear from him again.
By Graeme Smith
The two have a wonderfully complimentary sound, with emotive soundscapes, soulful vocals and confessional lyrics. For Jake, working with Carey gave him to freedom to bring his feelings of anxiety to life through sound. It Comes As A Friend is a powerful track, starting quiet and intimate and exploding to life in its climax in a way that will give you goosebumps.
Based in New York City, Jake uses music to make sense of the world around him, and to articulate his internal struggles. This kind of honesty in song writing makes it really compelling, and I can’t wait to hear more from him.
