Leibniz are a hard hitting rock band with a grungy style to their music, as latest track Prove shows. They’ve definitely headed for big things, so check out our interview below now so you don’t miss out!
By Jane Howkins
You recently released a song titled Prove, which we reviewed. What can you tell us about the track and where can it be purchased? What does the title refer to?
Prove is our first single, and one of our early Leibniz songs! It’s about the clarity in realising we have nothing to prove to anybody else, and the conflict in getting over that feeling. It can be purchased on our Bandcamp and iTunes, as well as streamed on pretty much any platform you can think of!
Has the pandemic hindered your work much?
Definitely. Leibniz began right before COVID hit, and so our songs and members of the band slowly evolved over the course of the pandemic and it really made it hard to gain some momentum. But as live shows came back, we’ve really been able to thrive!
What is the writing and recording process like for you?
It used to be that Dan would come with a nearly finished song, and other parts would be added to it in the studio and the song would be refined, but over the past few months we’ve really enjoyed writing songs as more of a unit, with each of us putting something of ourselves into every song!
Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?
For sure! After recording our first single, we’re really eager to jump back into the studio and get recording again!
Do you have plans to release an EP or album anytime soon?
That would be the dream! Today, recording an EP or album for a small artist like ourselves seems like a much more attainable goal than it used to be, and so people can definitely expect one in the future! But for now we plan on releasing a couple more singles to get people hungry for a full album or EP of our work!
What/who influences you most as an artist? What have you been listening to recently?
Dan: I’ve been fixated on Queens of the Stone Age recently, as well as Pom Poko and Angel Olsen.
Jack: I’ve been listening to Bad Nerves and The Mysterines!
Elisha: I’ve been really into Sleep Token and Unprocessed.
Where are you based? What is the music scene like in your part of the world? Are you influenced by your surroundings?
We are from Brighton! The scene is really thriving and London is close by, so we are surrounded by a ton of eclectic music and really talented artists, I’m always leaving shows buzzing with inspiration! It’s a real privilege to be surrounded by such a thriving community.
Do you have any tour dates lined up?
Not currently! But we hope to be playing very soon so people should keep a close eye on us for updates!
What can people expect from one of your shows and why should people come and see you perform live?
The stage is where we really thrive! Our sound is thick and fuzzy one moment, and warm and mellow the next, all fused together with raw energy and passion! Most importantly we’re just having fun and we hope that the audience gets to share that feeling with us.
Any last words for the fans?
Thanks to everyone that have supported us so far! It’s been amazing to hear your love and support for Prove and it’s great to see familiar faces at our shows! We can’t wait to see everyone again soon.
