Lady Goodman is an American country singer songwriter who has hit my radar through his tale of hitch-hiking gone awry. It’s called The Murder Ballad of Jessi Bell pt. 1.
By Graeme Smith
The track opens with a mournful yet playful electric guitar melody. Lady’s vocals rumble in, low, gruff and full of character. Told from the perspective of the murderer, the story comes to life as he pleads his case. The rhythm stays consistently pleasing, the instrumentals atmospheric and the lyrical tongue firmly in its cheek.
You can check out The Murder Ballad of Jessi Bell pt. 1 below. Fair warning, it’s not for the faint-hearted. I, for one, can’t wait for part two.
