Balance is a stunning song released by ANiQO – we reviewed the track as part of a monthly round up review and playlist back in February, making me want to find out more! Read on below to see how I got on.
By Jane Howkins
You recently released a track titled Balance, which we reviewed. What can you tell us about the song, and where can it be purchased?
The song is now available everywhere and is the second on the just released album, Birth. It’s about consciously confronting your inner demons and finding your inner balance. It is about dissolving blockages on the inside to be able to shine on the outside. You are responsible for your own healing – even if it is painful – only in this way can transformation happen.
Has the pandemic hindered your work much?
We had just prepared a new live set – that was a pity, of course. Instead, we refined the songs, I wrote some new ones and we recorded the album in the summer of 2020. In retrospect, I think it all went well that way.
What is the writing and recording process like for you?
It depends – sometimes a melody – sometimes a line of text. I start on the guitar or the piano. Then I note down the song structures and chord progressions. Arrangements are then made together with my band members Torsten Füchsel, Illia Vovk and Alexander Lode.
Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future? Have you started writing for an EP or an album?
I released the song Vivre Libre after Balance. Since 18th March, there is the album Birth. Please check it out.
Where are you based? What is the music scene like in your part of the world? Are you influenced by your surroundings?
I am most influenced by my surroundings. Everything I perceive with the eye, with the ear – conversations, love, people, places… the forces of nature. Musically, I’m caught between the two extremes of John Lennon and David Bowie. Totally natural and totally artificial. At the moment I listen to and love Mitski.
Do you have any tour dates lined up?
Please invite us! We have some upcoming shows planned in Berlin that we will announce soon.
What can people expect from one of your shows and why should people come and see you perform live?
It’s very heavy, deep, dark and very light. The show is an emotional roller coaster – I think that makes it very special because it touches at the core.
Any last words for the fans?
Listen to Birth from the beginning to the heart. Thanks for your support.
