Interview – Lost Like Lions

I recently reviewed the song Back To Life by band Lost Like Lions and I really loved their sound. Wanting to find out more, I decided to have a chat with the band! Read on below to see how I got on.

Has the pandemic hindered your work much?

It has in the sense that it slowed us down for about a year or so! Things are finally getting back to normal for us though! We travel to New York City to record. So we needed things to go back to normal in New York City in order for us to get back on a recording schedule, and keep the wheels turning!

What is the writing and recording process like for you?

Usually what happens for us is I (Derrik) come to the band with a skeleton of a song to a practice, and from there we end up building the song out. Our recording process is a little different, one of my best friends who I have recorded with since I was 16 lives out in New York City. The beginning phases of every recording begins out there with him, this allows us to finish the song back home in Buffalo where we track final guitars, final bass right in my basement. And then we do the drums at a local studio out here in Buffalo!

Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?

We have our next single called Medicate coming out on April 30th!

Have you started writing for an EP or an album?

Yes! We have our new EP Fear of Letting Go set to release this August! We are currently in the process of writing a new batch of songs as well, so by the time the EP gets released we will be fairly close to going right back into the studio to record the next batch of songs.

What/who influences you most as artists? What have you been listening to recently?

I would say we are all individually influenced by different genres and bands. Some of my favourite bands though are Oasis, Death Cab For Cutie, and Third Eye Blind!

Where are you based? What is the music scene like in your part of the world? Are you influenced by your surroundings?

We are based out of Buffalo, NY. And the music scene by us is really thriving. We are super lucky to be surrounded by such great talent who always pushes us to try and get better every release that we put out. As far as being influenced by our surroundings – I would say we are definitely influenced by our surroundings. The changing of the seasons, and the frequency of those seasons changing play a huge part on our moods, mindsets, and overall writing style in my opinion.

Do you have any tour dates lined up?

Right now we are just putting all of our focus on getting our new EP out there. We have some shows booked around New York State though the rest of the year, but nothing out of state just yet!

What can people expect from one of your shows and why should people come and see you perform live?

I think anytime you come to a Lost Like Lions show, you can see that we are just genuinely having fun. We all have day jobs, families and careers. Being able to play music allows us to have an escape from the real world, and gives us a night out with our friends. We are super grateful for that.

Any last words for the fans?

Thank you for taking the time to read this! If you have never given us a listen, we would be grateful to have a few minutes of you time! Thanks for doing this also!
