Discovery: Loveself

Loveself, real name Joshua O’Riley, is an Ireland-born, England-raised and Halifax, Canada-based indie pop-rock artist who specialises in music that makes you feel. His latest track certainly fits that bill. It’s called Anymore.

Anymore opens with a catchy bassline and twinkling percussion. It hits its stride early with the introduction of Joshua’s emotive vocals, strong yet pleading, speaking to the sense of desperation that comes with heartbreak.

Despite the bright and poppy feel to Anymore, Joshua counts among his influences dark-sided acts like Nirvana, The Cure, and Joy Division. There certainly is an undercurrent of their style in his approach to music, but you have to listen hard to hear it. All I can say for certain is that Anymore is an infectious gem of a song.
