Interview – Lacañgan

I recently featured the song Cool by Lacañgan in a round-up review based around underground soul music. It’s great to hear this sort of music becoming popular again, so I wanted to find out a little more about Lacañgan and his influences – find out more here:

By Jane Howkins

You recently released a song titled Cool, which we reviewed. What can you tell us about the song and where can it be purchased?

Cool, is about someone that maybe hasn’t taken relationships seriously in the past, but now has someone who they’d risk it all for.

It can be streamed everywhere (Spotify, Youtube, Pandora, Amazon Music, Itunes, Apple Music, to name a few)

Has the pandemic hindered your work much?

It changed everything, initially in 2020 I had a whole year tour planned to start in The Philippines, The Mediterranean and all the way back to California, but of course, that all changed because of the pandemic. But it was actually a blessing, because I could officially launch my company (that I had already been working on before the pandemic) that helps artist, musicians, and business launch the companies. I founded Sisu Collective. And we specialise in helping people launch their visions through film, music or on the web. We can produce the music for film, we can shoot the commercial, build your brand or build your website (and everything in between) – www.sisu.live

What is the writing and recording process like for you?

It depends, sometimes I hear a melody and build from that. Sometimes a conversation or an event will develop a concept, or a message comes to mind that I hope to convey to my audience. Sometimes I’ll play or hear a couple of chords that will trigger or ignite something. It varies, but those seem to be the most common ways songs come to me. Nonetheless, it’s always real and some form of life experience that I have the privilege to highlight.

Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?

Oh Yeah! Absolutely! I can for sure promise at least 2 more this year, it could be more! We’ll see though!

Are there any plans to release an EP or an album anytime soon?

We go back and forth with that, but for now just singles.

What/who influences you most as an artist?

My family, and the people who are close around me. I seem to draw inspiration from them the most!

What have you been listening to recently?

Lots of Stevie Wonder, that’s my guy!

Whereabouts are you based and what is the music scene like in your part of the world?

I was born In California, but now based in Houston, Texas. Music is thriving over here in Texas. People like Travis Scott, Megan The Stallion, Tobe Nwigwe, and of course Beyoncé Knowles.

Do you have any tour dates lined up?

In the future yes, but for now it’s more important for me to stay home and raise my toddler twin boys Luca & Liam, and their soon to be baby sister AvaRose.

What can people expect from one of your shows and why should people come and see you perform live?

When that time comes again? They’ll see my heart.

Any last words for the fans?

In a world where you could be anything? Be kind.
Love matters!

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
