Jonathan Lobo is an artist we’ve featured fairly recently, so I was very excited to be able to hear his latest EP release, Love. It’s the culmination of all his musical efforts, showing just how talented this artist is and why he’s so worthy of your listening time.

For those unaware, Jonathan’s music is probably best described as being within the indie pop genre, with opener The Cost being the perfect introduction to his music. It’s a haunting pop song that has quite a mellow sound, starting off with a pretty piano melody that sounds beautiful in its own right. Jonathan’s soft vocals are perfect for the song, adding another layer of beauty to it.
Calm Before The Storm is a slow and stripped-down track, again featuring a gorgeous keyboard melody, alongside some unique percussion sounds, programmed in by an electronic drum machine. The mellow nature of the music allows Jonathan’s vocals to really stand out, displaying his stunning lyrics well on this melancholic tune.
Start Again changes things up slightly by featuring an acoustic guitar as the main instrumentation instead of the keyboard, making this more of a folk song. The guitar melodies act in an almost rhythmic manner, pushing the song along to its catchy chorus. The piano does appear again later on, but its the guitars that really stand out here.
Magic is the song that we featured previously, and it’s probably the catchiest and most mainstream pop song on the entire EP. The main melody is infectious, especially when mixed with the huge percussion sound, as Jonathan repeats the main refrain over and over again on the chorus. It’s a pop song with a difference, sounding unlike anything on the airwaves at the moment.
Title track Love rounds things out nicely, going back to the acoustic folk sound present on the third song. However, it’s got more of a positive vibe, sounding upbeat, despite the slow tempo. It’s a love song, showing Jonathan’s lyrical prowess off to the world, as he describes his experience of love to a present lover.
Jonathan Lobo is an up and coming talent and one that should not be missed. If you’re into indie, folk or pop music, then there is something for you on Love.
