I recently reviewed Midlands artist Nix Dadry’s latest EP, The World Goes Round, and found myself loving the alt-rock/grunge vibes his music had. If that sounds like your sort of music, then check out the stream at the end of this interview!

You recently released an EP titled The World Goes Round. What can you tell us about the EP?
5 hybrid rock songs covering conflict, isolation, hope, resilience, unrequited love & acceptance. It’s produced by Dan Willett, a brilliant guy. He asks the right questions and knows how to steer the ship. My most collaborative project so far, featuring talented individuals I’d been meaning to work with for a while.
How has the reception been so far, and where can The World Goes Round be purchased?
Being an independent release, the reception was a bit low key at first, but it picked up and there have been some great reviews. It can be purchased on Bandcamp, iTunes and Amazon.
Have you released any singles from the EP?
Yes, 3 singles preceded it. First World, which caught the attention of Last Internationale, one of my favourite new bands. So cool because they were one of the inspirations for it. Then came Suicide Sunshine & Papillon, which resonated most with the people.
Do you plan to release an EP or an album anytime soon or is it too soon?
There are always songs or loose ideas but it is too soon. I’d like this one to reach more pairs of ears. I already have an album out & my first EP from a few years ago. Next, I’m keen on doing some singles where various artists are more involved, such as sharing the writing, someone else doing lead vocals, a different sound… who knows?
Has the pandemic hindered your work much?
Not that much to be honest! Since I didn’t play any gigs, I got my musical friends together for some live videos. 2 of which are acoustic sessions promoting the new material and the other 2 are from an electric session featuring older songs.
Your music contains elements from a number of rock genres. What/who influences you most as artists? What have you been listening to recently?
So many badass ones out there: Last Internationale, Starbenders, The Screaming Vultures, The Ugly Kings, Middle Class Rut, Kandle Osborne, Redlight King. Apart from music, I’m influenced by visual art, films, books and everyday life.
What is the composition process like for you?
Quite traditional. Most of it starts with my acoustic guitar. I find a structure and start imagining what will groove with it. Apart from an amp and 2 electric guitars, I don’t have much tech at home. I’m a caveman! Once I’m ready to make guide tracks, I meet Dan at the studio and we discuss ideas. A lot of things are just in my head. We find what works as we go along.
You’re a British artist. Where are you based? What is the music scene like in your part of the world?
I’m in the Midlands. It’s pretty cool, especially for rock and metal. We have a nice community but I haven’t been out to see a live band for a while which I will remedy soon.
Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?
I’m planning a night with other bands where we all play a set. Might even do two events. One in Birmingham, one in London. Aside from that, I’ve applied to play some festivals in 2023.
Any last words for the fans?
Yes. Go check out the EP and the videos. You’ll love them!
