Jade LauriAni is an American singer-songwriter and recording artist who writes catchy pop songs with quite a wide range of sounds contained within them. Her latest EP, Wild Winds, has quite a large r&b vibe to it, yet I also heard elements of the 1970s disco movement, making for something that sounds really distinctive nowadays!

Springtime opens the EP up in dramatic effect, seeing Jade’s vocals performing alongside some haunting backing effects and wind chimes. Backing vocals overlap the main vocals, making for an intro song that is incredibly evocative, sounding almost mystical at times. A steady drum beat segues perfectly into the next track.
Overtime continues the intro song as it has the same drum rhythm as heard towards the end of Springtime, but it’s still a very different piece of music. It’s a stripped-down r&b song with a classic sound to it – both in terms of the instrumentation used and the exquisite production quality. Jade’s vocals are full of soul, drifting across the organ and bass in style.
Don’t Hurt Me is a really funky track – the bass is very prominent, but never takes over the song. It’s got a mid-tempo rhythm, with a faster percussion style playing alongside the bass and the backing synths. There are multiple layers playing over each other here, so you really need to listen to the track a few times to fully appreciate it! The vocals sound epic, particularly when they repeat the title refrain towards the end.
Love closes things and once again changes the style of the EP up again. This is more of a typical singer-songwriter style song, with a simplistic acoustic guitar melody providing most of the instrumentation, although the bass and drums are still present. It’s another slow tune, bringing the tempo back down again after Don’t Hurt Me, showcasing Jade’s vocals off in a lovely fashion.
Wild Winds is an impressive EP, showing Jade LauriAni to be a musician and singer capable of writing for several different genres. It also helps that she has a stunning voice, drawing you into her lovely world upon the first listen.
