Interview: Onbar

If you’re into your pop music, then you’d be a fool to pass up Onbar’s music! The San Jose native has produced a fantastic new song called GOOD, which we reviewed fairly recently. If you somehow missed it, you can find it at the end of this interview!

By Jane Howkins

You recently released a single titled GOOD, which we reviewed. What can you tell us about the track?

GOOD was definitely the track that helped me expand on my creativity. The song was produced and written on the spot (which I never had done before) and it made me trust more in the process and the people I work with.

How has the reception been so far, and where can GOOD be purchased?

So far, a lot of people love this song and were really surprised by the production style. GOOD can be streamed on all stream services and purchased on Apple Music and SoundCloud!

Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?

Yes, I am actually working on a new track and will release it sometime early next year!

Have you any plans to release a full-length album or an EP?

I want to release an album eventually, but since I work a full time job, it’s been tough to balance my schedule. Eventually, I’ll be pursuing music more and will have time to make an album!

What is the writing and recording process like for you?

It was a new learning experience for me. I think making GOOD helped me tap into a side of me that gave me confidence as an artist. The recording process also was cool because the producer I was working with really pushed me to get my vocals to mix well with the track.

Did the pandemic hinder your work much?

Actually, the pandemic pushed me to make music. I learned that you can make music in your own home and with all that free time, I was able to create whatever and whenever I wanted.

Your music has an alt pop sound. What/who influences you most as an artist? What have you been listening to recently?

I honestly don’t listen to alt-pop as much, but because of the producer I was working with, he helped guide me to alt-pop with the lyrics and melodies I was coming up with. Recently though, I’ve been listening to a lot of lofi hi- hop.

Where are you based? What is the music scene like in your part of the world?

I am based in San Jose, CA in the USA. The music scene is still growing here, but I think my city is mainly a home base for many creatives of all disciplines. I’ve met tons of creatives such as painters, designers, etc.,

Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?

For now, I do not plan on touring in the UK!

Any last words for the fans?

Thank you for listening to my music and I look forward to sharing more with y’all!
