Ciara Leah is a Toronto, Canada-based artist and producer who has just caught my attention thanks to her new single, released in anticipation of her debut album Love Money. A meditation of the dark-side of celebrity, specifically the “27 club” of artists who lost their life too early, it’s called 27.

27 opens with a vibrant, jazzy style. Its upbeat style somewhat disguises its dark subject matter. Yet, the lyrics are straight to the point, and Ciara’s reboot of ’80s funky pop feels like a breath of fresh air in a genre that can often be a little staid.

On this evidence, Love Money is going to be an album not to miss. Co-produced by Juno-nominated producers Chris Rouse and Thomas McKay, it’s going to be a cracker. You can check out the single version of 27 below.
