Interview: Dorian

I recently featured the song Blast Off by Dorian in a round-up review based around songs with elements of trap music. Dorian is a bit of a unique proposition, as his music also features elements of pop, r&b and hip-hop, making for a fantastic mix of overall sounds. This made me want to find out more about him, hence this interview!

How was your 2022?

It was awesome! A really transformative year for me musically and personally. It has been a blessing seeing my musical efforts start to really take shape and become a fruitful endeavor.

You recently released a track called Blast Off, which we reviewed. What can you tell us about the song?

The song is inspirational in that the lyrics are not only heartfelt but motivating. The lyrics talk about conquering any doubt or fears and taking dreams into your own hands again. Sonically, I wanted to tackle a drill beat in a different and uplifting way. I had fun with the song!

How has the reception been for Blast Off and where can it be purchased?

It is available on all streaming platforms! Both the Radio Edit and EP version of the song have been getting a ton of love, so I am very grateful for that!

Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?

For sure! I plan to do some videos from this EP also.

A 3 track EP called 33 was released recently. What can you tell us about the EP?

So Blast Off is a part of this EP, and it is a piece of a very personal project for me. 33 is symbolic of not only my age but more-so the headspace I’m in currently and some of the things I’m currently dealing with internally.
It was a way for me to tell a personal story while releasing spiritual baggage, as well as hoping to touch and inspire others that can relate!

Are there any plans to release a full length album?

I’m always writing and most definitely plan to put together a full length project in the future. My debut album Dream World is 14 tracks, so please check that out (and other projects) in the meantime!

Your music mixes together hip, hop, trap, rap, pop and r&b. What/who influences you most as an artist? What have you been listening to recently?

I have sooo many influences; it’s hard to name them all. But, I do think I draw most of my inspiration from artists like Michael Jackson & Monica. They really resonate with me. And I’m always listening to different types of music: 80’s hits, 90’s r&b & pop classics, Rihanna, SZA, Dave East, Chris Brown, FLO… the list really goes on and on!

Where are you based? What is the music scene like where you are?

I am based out of the Baltimore, Maryland (USA) area. The scene is quite exquisite; so much raw talent! I love being a part of that community of artists.

Do you have any UK tour dates lined up?

I wish! One day though! One day!

Any last words for the fans?
