Toronto, Canada-based singer songwriter Ally Cribb first hit my radar at the end of last year thanks to her debut EP Unbroken. Now she’s back with a new outward-looking track and video. It’s called California.

California was written during a visit to Ally’s grandmother’s house and explores the imagined world of a small town couple growing up. The story is delivered through gentle piano and Ally’s unmistakable, charismatic vocals. Among her influences are Ella Fitzgerald, Taylor Swift and Joni Mitchell and you certainly get a nice mix of folk and pop in California.

Having been writing music since the age of twelve, Ally Cribb has a sophisticated sound that makes you forget she’s still a teenager. You can check out the monochromatic video for California below.
