Discovery: Blueburst

Blueburst is a new project, a collaboration between The Reach’s Craig Douglas Miller and The Church’s Marty Willson-Piper. The project represents the first new music from Craig, the singer songwriter, for over twenty years, but based on its evidence, he’s not lost his touch. Their debut is called Vanish.

By Graeme Smith

Vanish has something of a throwback feel about it, but it’s a style that also feels very contemporary given the recent resurrection of ’90s rock. The guitar riffs hits nicely, and Craig’s vocals are wonderfully confident while delivering a story of ironic nihilism. The track is Craig throwing off the shackles of writer’s block and it feels suitably infused with tentative hope.

For the project Craig sought out Marty as a hero of his and the two developed a mentor-mentee dynamic while pulling together their new collection of songs. Following Vanish will be more singles, then an album release in the Autumn. I can’t wait to hear more!
