Joe Kenney is an American jazz keyboardist and composer who Jane has featured on our blog a few times now. She even posed him some questions in an interview. Now it’s my turn to run the rule over his music, thanks to a recent team up with Nashville-based Eddie Meyer. It’s called ELEVATE/ACTIVATE.

ELEVATE/ACTIVATE is a track that catches you right away with its unique feel. There is certainly a throwback feel to its funky jazz arrangement, but something forward-facing about it to. The early groove is easy to slide into but just unconventional enough to feel challenging. It’s a beautifully thought-out piece.
