Mase J is a Derby-based rapper who has just caught my attention thanks to his delicately acoustic new track head//heart.

Head//heart is primarily a song about conflict. Toxic masculinity can so easily get in the way of feelings and romance and that’s what mase J explores in his lyrics. The song is almost mantra like through its use of repetition and there’s a raw authenticity in the vocal delivery and its stripped-back instrumentals.

The track is the first single release from mase J’s upcoming EP photodump//exit left. Not afraid to explore mental health issues and personal growth in his music, it feels as what mase J is putting out acts as both a release for him personally, and for those listening that can relate.
