If you like your pop music on a slightly darker scale, YME’s music may be just the ticket! I discovered her track I Rule The World fairly recently, and I’ve been unable to stop listening to it, as it’s just that good! I wanted to find out more about the brains of the operation, so decided to have a quick chat with the artist to find out a little more about the tune.

You released a single titled I Rule The World. What can you tell us about the track?
I Rule The World is about growing up towards an adult – we all want to make our own decisions in life.
Especially when you have autism, it’s hard to find your place in the real world where everybody is fighting for recognition.
How has the reception to I Rule The World been so far, and where can the song be purchased?
I Rule The World was very well received with very good reviews in international magazines, also the song is on rotation on radio in The Netherlands, US, UK, Belgium and Canada and we are working on more country’s at the moment.
You can stream the song on Spotify – open.spotify.com…574f9f
Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?
On 7th April I will release my 8th song called ENEMY. The song is about being in a toxic relationship. Later in 2023, I will release another track with the title SERPENT. Personally I think SERPENT could be my breakthrough because this track has a more commercial sound!
Do you plan to release an EP or an album anytime soon?
An album is planned for release at the end of 2023 or beginning of 2024.
Your music has an electronic pop sound. What/who influences you most as an artist? What have you been listening to recently?
My main influence is definitely Billie Eilish, as well as Dead by Romy. I have listened to Dead by Romy and Maggie Lindemann a lot lately.
What is the writing and recording process like for you?
It’s quite comfortable for me and Marco (who is my producer). We start off with the beats and than I start writing the lyrics, after a couple of freestyle sessions we start seriously on the track and finish it mostly within 2 sessions.
What do you think is the biggest challenge in the music business at the moment?
My personal biggest challenge is finding the right listeners for my music.
You’re based in the Netherlands. How is the local music scene faring at the moment?
The local music scene in my country is a bit boring, we have a lot of artists who sing the typical Dutch style and language which I don’t like very much. It’s been the same for years and it’s too much.
Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?
Unfortunately I don’t tour at the moment, but this is something I definitely working on to get on the road in the near future.
Any last words for the fans?
Stay positive and if you are suffering from any disorder, mental or physical, speak about it, you are not alone and there is always light at the end of the darkness.
