Picnic Lightning are a Fort Worth, USA-based rock band who have featured on the blog a couple of times before. Jane first discovered them for us back in 2020, and I then followed up with a review of their track Youth Group last year. Now they’re back with another one. It’s called Simulacra.

Simulacra is a moody and atmospheric track right from the off. You get a sense of the big, open spaces of their native Texas in their sound, with echoing drums, lonesome guitar and mournful vocals. As the track progresses, the arrangement gets edgier with fuzzy, psychedelic elements.

Picnic Lightning are influenced by the likes of …and you will know us by the Trail of Dead, Arcade Fire and Courtney Barnet. Fans of any of those acts will find a lot to love about Simulacra. You can give it a listen below.
