Interview: Georgia Hoareau

Georgia Hoareau is a fantastic artist from the Australian Gold Coast, who recently released a fivetrack EP titled wish somebody told her. It really does make for a fantastic listen, and I gave it a great review at the start of the month. If you liked the EP, you really ought to check this interview out!

You released an EP titled wish somebody told her. What can you tell us about the EP?

This EP is definitely a snippet of my world and captures a certain period of time in my life and what I was going through. It’s called wish somebody told her, which is a line in my song Oh Well, which is the last song I wrote for the EP. It pretty much talks about the struggles of a first break up and the experiences I went through physically and emotionally.

How has the reception to the EP been so far, and where can it be purchased?

It’s gone well, I’ve had a lot of support from local media, family, friends and others who are interested in my music. It’s available on all streaming platforms and if you want you can even purchase a special limited-edition CD pressing on my website which has two bonus tracks, lyrics sheet and download card (link here – georgiahoareau-m…site/)

Do you plan to release any singles from the EP in the near future?

I released GIRL and Oh Well as singles prior to releasing the EP, so I probably won’t be releasing any further singles from it. That said, I have just finished and released a brand-new music video for one of the songs on the EP called In The End, which was produced by an amazing local director, Luis Bran. I’m really happy with how it came out and how it has enhanced the song itself (link here – www.youtube.com/…qY5N9w )

Are there any plans to release a full-length album?

I have plenty of songs written, however, there currently aren’t any plans in the works. I would love to eventually release a full-length album, yet the plan at this point is to release another EP before I do that.

Your music has an indie pop sound. What/who influences you most as an artist? What have you been listening to recently?

I’m a big fan of Lizzy McAlpine and Gracie Abrams at the moment and I really love their writing style and production. I’m constantly listening to new music and finding new artists, but for the EP, it was mostly those two main influences.

What do you think is the biggest issue you currently face in the music industry at the moment?

My biggest challenge in the music industry is getting my music heard. There are so many emerging independent artists that are so talented and have such great material but just struggle to get the exposure they need. So one of the hardest things in the industry is getting your music in front of people when you’re an independent artist, especially when you’re competing with labels and artists that have a full team behind them.

Do you have anything else exciting coming up this year?

I have a couple of gigs I’m unable to announce yet, one of which is a local music festival. I’m also fortunate to be heading to Sydney for a couple days to do some writing with a really amazing Australian singer-songwriter called Patrick James. Co-writing is something fairly new to me so I’m looking forward to doing more of it and seeing what I can create with others.

You’re based on the Gold Coast. How is the local music scene faring at the moment?

I think there is a great little music scene here on the Gold Coast. There are some really cool venues that are very supportive of local musicians and the Gold Coast Music Network is really good at creating a community and recognising local original artists. There are plenty of gig opportunities but it is still a small community compared to the bigger cities (of course), but in all honesty its growing and developing very well.

Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?

I don’t have any international tour dates lined up at the moment, but I would love to get my music heard over there and get involved in the music scene overseas. Hopefully one day in the future I’ll get the chance to do that!

Any last words for the fans?
