Hotly-tipped new Hull-based lo-fi songwriter Brodie Milner is pleased to announce a short run of June 2023 UK headline dates in support of his forthcoming debut EP, Tragicomedy, set for release on 26th May 2023.
Dubbed the Tragicomedy Tour, the dates see Milner taking on full band shows across Yorkshire, with an additional solo date in Manchester, and a London headline date at The Sebright Arms on 13th June, with tickets on sale now (see below for listings).
Alongside the live dates, Milner has also revealed the video for his new single Comedy, which is out now on all good streaming services.
Filmed and edited by Mick Sanders, with additional footage from Stewart Baxter (drummer of fellow Hull artists LIFE) Milner says of the video: “Visually, we wanted to emphasise the theme of the art of clowning, that’s intrinsic to the lyrics. We pulled focus on the costume (made by Daisy Allen)—a hybrid creation of the classic Pierrot clown and commedia dell’arte characters. Mick cut this together into something that was glitchy and erratic, mimicking the unhinged tone of the song’s narrator.”
Part political takedown, part social observation, commenting on the track itself Milner says: “The dire state of British politics is almost matched by the commentary on it—280 characters at a time of quickly digestible ‘food for thought’, all empty calories. Our narrator here is guilty of the above, reducing the life-threatening and reprehensible to an ill-conceived joke. Mother nature is thinking of ending things…”
Recorded at Crooked Room Studios on the outskirts of York, forthcoming new EP Tragicomedy was produced, engineered, and mixed by Isaac McInnis and co-produced by Bradley Blackwell, and mastered by Kevin Tuffy at Manmade Mastering. Tragicomedy also features original cover artwork by Stewart Baxter (LIFE) and Brodie Milner.
The EP’s pacily-moreish lead single Hedonist was released earlier this year and received a rush of radio support from Gemma Bradley on BBC R1, BBC 6music DJs including Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson, was track of the week on BBC introducing with Alan Raw, picked up spins from Shell Zenner and Charlie Ashcroft at Amazing Radio, and landed on Spotify’s official melomania playlist.
Following recent support slots alongside Cruush, Marnie Glum, Lilies in my brain, Organ Morgan, and The Ocelots, further live dates and new music will be revealed soon.
Brodie Milner’s debut EP Tragicomedy is released 26th May 2023. Brodie performs at The Black Lion in Bridlington on June 16th, Thieving Harry’s in Hull on June 17th and the Hyde Park Book Club in Leeds on June 18th.
