New Music: The Margaret Hooligans – Witch on the Corner

American garage rock duo The Margaret Hooligans have appeared on our blog a couple of times now – firstly in January with their hilarious and relatable Doggie Pizza Crust, then in March with the bittersweet Hey Love. Their latest gives us some powerful blues rock and it’s called Witch on the Corner.

Witch on the Corner starts with some raw drumming and guitar which builds into a psychedelic groove that feels timeless. The lyrics are rich in storytelling, drawing on a family myth and wider tales of gentrification. It’s a track that gives us yet another side of the The Margaret Hooligans sound, and one I’m here for.

The track will feature on their upcoming album Saturday Night in Bartertown. It was recorded in the basement of Piety Street Publishing, was mixed and mastered by Jon Huxtable of Smallfish Recordings, and was produced by drummer Rob Strontium.
