Los Angeles, USA-based alternative rock and pop artist Lou Emery made a couple of appearances on this blog last year thanks to her singles Instinctual and Wish. Now’s she’s back with a new one that explores a toxic, oppressive relationship. It’s called Roots.

Roots opens with a stripped-back electric guitar melody and Lou’s stinging vocals. The lyrics are wonderfully storytelling, and the minimal instrumentals work well to showcase them. As the track progresses, it builds to something cathartically anthemic, akin to the likes of Paramore or Olivia Rodrigo.
The track is a third single from Lou’s upcoming debut EP. It was produced by Alex Arnaout. You can give Roots a listen below.
