American garage rock duo The Margaret Hooligans is one of my most exciting discovers of late. Since the beginning of the year, I’ve shared three of their tracks that run the gamut of love, rock and starvation. Their latest takes their bonkers world into yet another strange direction. It’s called What Kind Of Donut Are You?
By Graeme Smith
What Kind of Donut Are You? is a track that revels in its quirkiness. The title says it all. The pair run through the various styles with call and responses lyrics backed by hypnotic garage rock instrumentals. The track’s story has an unlikely origin – singer Meg Cratty’s gluten intolerance.
The track was recorded in the basement of Piety Street Publishing, was mixed and mastered by Jon Huxtable of Smallfish Recordings and was produced by The Margaret Hooligan’s other half, Strontium. You can listen to What Kind of Donut Are You? below.
