Cavale is a French experimental pop artist who has just come to my attention thanks to her new dance track that explores the joy and trepidation that comes with new love. Coming complete with a video, it’s called One Step.

One Step opens with a bouncing percussive beat that reflects the heart. A minimal instrumental arrangement gives plenty of space to Cavale’s expressive vocals that chant “one step forward, steps back.” There’s something wonderfully undefinable about it all, with elements of dance, pop, hip hop and the Avant Garde. Lyrically it dwells on the fear of making past mistakes with a relatable vulnerability.
