Manchester-based Cola Bay are a rock band who have been going since the end of 2021, but have only just hit my radar thanks to their politically-charged new track Break Like Glass.
By Graeme Smith
In Break Like Glass, Cola Bay take aim at the government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, including their rule-breaking, damaging policies and suspect financial dealings. As you’d expect, there’s a fire about its composition, with heavy, machine-gun-esque instrumentals backing energetically weary vocals.
Cola Bay are Andy on song writing and vocals, Joe on drums, Tom and Joey on guitars, and Jimmy on bass. Appropriately, they met during the pandemic on an online forum, bonding by playing a cover of Queens Of The Stone Age’s No One Knows. With a growing presence on the Manchester scene, it’s about time we sat up and paid attention to them on this side of the Pennines.
