Interview: Indigo Daydream

Devon-based artist Indigo Daydream makes, as you might expect from his chosen moniker, psychedelic rock/pop music that harks back to the classic 60s days of the scene. I’m not normally one for covers, but his version of Beatles track Strawberry Fields Forever really caught my attention, making me want to find out more about this intriguing new artist. Read on below…

By Jane Howkins

You recently released a cover version of Strawberry Fields Forever. Why did you decide to cover the original Beatles song? What can you tell us about the track?

The Beatles have been an intrinsic part of all of the music I’ve released so far. My last single Room on My Cloud was inspired by John Lennon’s quote “love is the answer”. How Would it Feel to Know the Truth referenced The Beatles’ Glass Onion from the White Album and all of my music takes some kind of inspiration from The Beatles, so it just seemed fitting to finally create an Indigo Daydream version of one of my favourite Beatles songs.

How has the reception to the song been so far, and where can the song be purchased?

I have had some wonderful feedback from people, which is really great together with a lot of radio airplay too. My favourite piece of feedback was from a recent review and was:

“Calling it a cover is an understatement… it sounds like a new song. It’s as if the Beatles of the future had come to us using Doc Brown’s DeLorean.”

Can we expect any more covers from you?

Maybe, but there are no immediate plans. I have a new original song underway, so it’s exciting to share that very soon.

Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?

Absolutely, but I have to be secret squirrel about that right now, but certainly before the end of the year for sure!

Are there any plans to release an album or EP anytime soon?

No plans for an EP or an album right now.

Your music has a psychedelic rock/pop sound. What/who influences you most as an artist? What have you been listening to recently?

The Beatles and The Stones with a side of 90’s grunge and shoegaze = Indigo Daydream. I love Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, The Stone Roses, The Verve, Mazzy Star. There is so much music making up my own personal algorithm when it comes to the music I make.

Where are you based? What is the local music scene like at the moment?

I’m based near Totnes, Devon. Lots of lovely local live music. The Barrell House is the main live venue and there’s a wonderful group called The Blackbird Collective that hosts live events. You should come down for a visit!

Do you have anything else exciting coming up this year?

I have family in the USA, in the deep South, so I’m hoping to visit later this year. I find that part of the world very inspiring musically, so it will be great to go see some live music and get inspired to do some songwriting while I’m out there.

Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?

I am working on scheduling a short tour later this year and early 2024. Strawberry Field in Liverpool have asked me to do an event and there are some great independent music venues in the North West that I would love to play. I’ll keep you posted!

Any last words for the fans?

Thanks for listening and supporting Indigo Daydream. Can’t wait to share my new single with you later this year. Peace and Love xx
