New Music: Meghan Pulles – mamma

We’ve featured Nashville, USA-based singer songwriter Meghan Pulles before on this blog. It was at the end of last year that Jane ran the rule over her EP Sighs Of Her for us. Now it’s my turn to share some of her music courtesy of her latest track mamma.

By Graeme Smith

A slow-burning number, mamma gently unfolds over almost eight minutes. Meghan wrote the piece as a way of exploring the idea of accessing your inner child, and there’s an intimate, introspective feel about it. A trance-like rhythm is enhanced by traces of piano and acoustic guitar before Meghan’s soulful, pleading vocals come in. The trauma and vulnerability of which its lyrics speak hang heavy over everything, but a marching drumbeat pushes things on with resolve. Mamma is an emotionally rich and complex track that’s worth every second.

Mamma is taken from Meghan’s upcoming album ear baby which is set for release this year. You can check out the single below.
