We’re pleased to officially announce our latest York Calling show. As part of York Alive festival, and in preparation for our tenth birthday, York Calling are looking forward to welcoming Gifts From Crows Trio to York for the first time.

Gifts From Crows Trio is the live expression of Richard Laurence’s neoclassical project Gifts From Crows. The Trio will be playing key tracks from Gifts From Crows three critically acclaimed albums. Whilst the hypnotic piano and atmospheric synth textures remain signature elements, the jazz-influenced drumming and partly improvised saxophone lines bring a surprisingly dynamic dimension to the compositions that make for a compelling live experience.

Richard says: “Gifts From Crows Trio are thrilled to be playing in the historic city of York for the first time. It’s an honour to be part of such a culturally ambitious festival and we are looking forward to playing our music in the beautiful setting of the National Centre for Early Music. We’re delighted to have Kindelan as our special guest and it should make for a wonderful evening of music making.”

Joining them on the night will be Kindelan. Originally from York, Kindelan has been a York Calling favourite for some time. For fans of Lianne La Havas, Jordan Rakei and Nai Palm, Yorkshire singer/songwriter and guitarist Kindelan writes jazz infused alternative soul with an indelible authenticity.

Kindelan says: “It’s always magic to perform and absorb music at the NCEM, and a real treat to be asked to open for Gifts From Crows.”

Kindelan and Gifts From Crows Trio will play at The National Centre For Early Music, York on Sunday 8 October 2023. Doors are at 7:30pm. Tickets are £13.50 (£7.00 for under 35s), available from the venue website.

The event is part of York Alive which aims to showcase the best York has to offer in the arts – especially in comedy, music and the spoken word. This October, York Alive takes place for the first time, in the city’s theatres,  music venues and pubs.
