We’ve featured the band Attic Theory quite a lot in recent months, so I felt it was time to finally have a chat with them. They’ve got a great sound, showing a lot of promise for the future – make sure you check out a stream of latest release Papier-Mâché at the bottom of our interview with Lewis.
By Jane Howkins
You’ve recently released your third single Papier-Mâché. What can you tell us about the track?
The song’s title, Papier-Mâché, metaphorically represents the fragility and delicacy of human emotions, and explores the intricate layers that compose the human experience. The lyrics delve into the complexities of relationships and the vulnerability that comes with opening yourself up to love. I tried to deliver an emotionally charged vocal performance to convey the rawness of the song’s narrative.
How has the reception to the song been so far, and where can it be purchased?
The reception to the song has been overwhelmingly positive from fans and music critics alike. I think the song has resonated with listeners, as it tackles relatable themes and strikes an emotional chord.
Papier Mâché can be purchased and accessed through various digital music platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and more. Our website also offers a range of merchandise options including album pre-orders.
The track also features Kevin Martin of Candlebox. How did the collaboration come about? Would you want to do more collaborations in the future?
This extraordinary opportunity to collaborate with the renowned musician Kevin Martin of Candlebox came to fruition when I, a massive fan of Candlebox, had the privilege of meeting Kevin at one of his shows. A couple of years later, we opened for Candlebox, and this experience led to this unexpected creative collaboration.
The fusion of our style and Kevin Martin’s seasoned expertise, professionalism and passion for music resulted in the formation of a remarkable partnership and the creation of a powerful and emotionally charged song.
As for future collaborations, we are enthusiastic about the prospect of joining forces with other accomplished musicians. I understand the immense value that these collaborations bring, as they offer fresh perspectives, diverse musical influences, and the chance to reach a broader audience. The experience of working with Kevin Martin has had a profound impact on my artistic approach and has definitely left an indelible mark. We are also particularly excited about the collaboration on the album with rising star Lucy Ellen, as we are proud to help showcase this talented individual.
Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?
While we haven’t made a final decision yet, we definitely recognise the strengths of all of the songs on the album, which makes it quite challenging to choose just one. However, we may indeed surprise our fans with an additional single, perfectly timed to coincide with the album’s release. So, stay tuned! We appreciate the support of our dedicated followers and can’t wait to reveal what Attic Theory has in store for them.
You have an album coming out soon, titled What We Fear The Most. When will the album be released, and what can you tell us about the record?
I am thrilled to share the news that our highly anticipated album, What We Fear The Most, is set to be released on 26th January 2024. This record has been a labour of love for all of us in the band, and we cannot wait for our fans to finally experience it.
What We Fear The Most explores the depths of human emotions and delves into the fears that haunt us all. It is a collection of raw and honest songs that touch upon themes of loss, heartbreak and the struggles we face on our journey through life. Each track showcases the evolution of our sound, blending elements of alternative rock and grunge with a modern edge.
We have poured our hearts and souls into this album, and we truly believe it is our best work to date. We hope that our fans will connect with the music on a deep level and find solace in knowing that they are not alone in their fears. What We Fear The Most is a testament to the power of music to heal and unite us all.
Your music has an alt-rock sound. What/who are you most influenced by? What have you been listening to recently?
We are most influenced by incredible bands like Foo Fighters, Candlebox, Filter and Alice In Chains. Foo Fighters’ raw emotion and catchy melodies inspire our intense music. Candlebox and Filter’s melodic rock sounds shape our unique blend of grunge, alternative rock and post-grunge. Alice In Chains’ haunting melodies captivate us, driving us to create music that deeply resonates with our listeners. We are grateful for the influence of these bands on our musical journey.
What is the writing and recording process like for you?
Attic Theory’s creative journey is a delicate balance of artistry and technicality. It begins with inspiration from a guitar riff, followed by a poetic line or vocal melody that sparks the imagination. Collaborating with bandmates, we refine ideas into strong, solid songs. In the recording studio, I infuse each line with raw emotion and energy, and work closely with our producer Loïc Gaillard to explore vocal techniques and nuances that balance vulnerability and technicality.
Do you have anything else exciting coming up this year?
While our primary focus remains on the release of the album and subsequent promotional activities, we will seize any exciting opportunities that may arise in the remainder of 2023. Fans can rest assured that if a remarkable gig presents itself in 2023, we will be ready to deliver an unforgettable performance.
Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?
We are frequently asked about our upcoming tour dates, so we are excited to announce that we have secured a spot at SOS Fest 2024, which gives us a fantastic opportunity to showcase our music and connect with new amazing fans. Although we do have additional tour dates scheduled right now, we can’t reveal them just yet. However, we are constantly striving to expand our horizons and discover new opportunities. We deeply appreciate the unwavering support from our fans, and we promise to announce future shows as soon as they are confirmed. Stay tuned for more updates!
