Though this is the first time we’re sharing some of Hana Piranha’s solo work, she has appeared on these pages before as part of the London and Brighton-based collective Birdeatsbaby. Her latest showcases her unique brand of rock, complete with anthemic quality and plenty of teeth. It’s called Lorelai.
By Graeme Smith
Hana’s latest tells the story of an abusive relationship, focussing on the act of healing from it. It’s named for a mythical mermaid who lures sailors to their death and there’s certainly an aura of the sinister about it. Rumbling bass and industrial percussion sets the early tone before characterful, spoken word vocals come in, delivering heavy-hitting lyrics. The track builds to a cathartic chorus rich in hard rock sensibilities.
Lorelai is taken from Hana’s upcoming album Wingspan, set for release 17 November via Not Saints, the only record label in the UK working with musicians in recovery from addiction. You can give the single a listen below.
