Do you like your rock music with a sense of added melody? If you do, then heavy on the heart. is for you! They’re a modern rock/indie group with a glorious sound, as displayed on their latest EP release, It’s You That Has To Think. The band is relatively new to the modern music scene, but they’re already predicted for big things, so you really should check the record out!

This five track EP kicks off with Better Now, opening with some really interesting guitar melodies, swirling around in the background in lovely style. The track has a massive build up, seeing an array of heavy riffs appear out of nowhere, before the emo-esque vocals kick in. The change in dynamics between the verses and chorus works really well, keeping your interest constantly poised. The production is a tad raw, but it makes everything sound more genuine overall.
Toe to Toe bursts out of the seams with a fantastic energy, seeing the huge riffs kick in straight away. The beat is pretty fast and never really lets up, creating something that will have your feet tapping along in no time. However, despite being pretty heavy, the song also features some wonderful vocal harmonies, utilising another set of vocals in a call and response style. It’s incredibly catchy, getting stuck in your head straight away.
Catch Me If I Fall is another tune that starts out slowly, before the rest of the instrumentation kicks in with a full throttle assault on the senses. I felt there was something of a pop-punk vibe about the track, including yet another genre within the band’s immense sound. A killer guitar solo appears towards the end, showing just how talented heavy on the heart. really are!
Wasting starts out with a wonderful vocal line, underpinned by a clean guitar melody. A slew of backing vocals appear soon after, before the rhythm section arrives on the scene. It’s pretty mellow at first, allowing the vocals to truly shine through. However, the chorus changes things up again, crashing into the track with the heavy riffs and beat that characterise this band’s sound so well. Afterwards, the energy stays raised, tailing out in fantastic style.
The final track on the EP is Villains, which is also one of my favourite songs on It’s You That Has To Think. It’s a little slower than the other songs on the verses, changing rapidly on the frantic chorus as the vocals follow the fast tempo in style. There’s a pretty cool breakdown towards the end too, finalising both the track and the EP on a great note.
