The Duke of Norfolk is an American folk singer songwriter who first hit our radar in 2019 but we’ve not shared any of his music since 2020. His latest single has been two years in the making and was made with the help of This is the Kit. A meditation on the process of waiting, it’s called The Yeast in the Sugar.

In a world that often demands instant results and gratification, the joys of the slower processes can be lost. That’s the point that The Duke of Norfolk makes in his latest single. It opens vibrantly with plucked strings before soft vocal harmonies come in. I was always taken with The Duke of Norfolk’s poetic lyrics and his latest is no exception. Add in the unique arrangement of folk instrumentals, The Yeast in the Sugar is a timely reminder of just how much I’ve missed his music. It’s worth the wait.
