Apollo Rising is the electronic pop project of Danick Coutu, a producer, pianist and vocalist based in Montréal, Canada. He’s just come to my attention thanks to his latest track and video release. Telling the story of Detective Alex Horne (not the guy from Taskmaster) in pursuit of a mystery girl, it’s called Cherry Blossom.
By Graeme Smith
Danick’s latest opens with a lively bass riff, licks of guitar and passionate vocals. Though definitely a pop track, there’s something slightly unconventional about it that keeps the listener engaged, especially when combined with its emotional and storytelling lyrics. A stripped-back bridge perfectly sets up its cathartic climax.
Cherry Blossom will feature on Apollo Rising’s debut album Maybe In Another Life, set for release next year. You can check out its video, shot around Montréal and directed and produced by David Sklubal, below.
