Album Review: P Dulude – Floating With You

P Dulude is a electronic instrumental musician based in the mountains near Montreal, Canada. He’s just come to my attention thanks to the release of his debut album, combining his loves of nature, science and people. It’s called Floating With You.

By Graeme Smith

The album opens with its title track. It’s an ethereal start tempered by the artificial noise of a dial-up modem. As the track progresses, it becomes more expansive before arriving at moody, driving groove. There’s a touch of the throwback to P Dulude’s sound, bringing to mind the electronica of the late ’80s and early ’90s, but it’s been reimagined for the future age, with plenty of innovation. It’s a strong start.

Traveling Forever is suitably adventurous, opening cagey before developing into some cosmic ambience. Captured speech provides the narrative. Hiking with the Stars is a slow-burner that paints a dark and wonderous picture before Nebula W gives us a mid-album highlight with its simmering journey through the universe. Close your eyes and you’ll be transported to another plane.

Working at Night Alone brings us back to Earth with its use of ambient sounds, but it’s perhaps a different world than the one we are familiar with. Feeling Included shows a different side to the P Dulude sound thanks to its brooding, Gothic touches. Levitation is spine-tingling textured vignette before Golden For3v3r closes the album with a crystalline effort that stretches out into infinity.

It’s fair to say that P Dulude is an act that’s flying quite a way under the radar at this moment but I’ve no doubt that this debut album is going to win him a fair few more fans. It’s well-crafted electronica at its best.

Floating With You was self-produced and mixed by P Dulude, and mastered by Luc Tellier. You can give it a listen below.
