Birds are better, the musical project of Oslo, Norway-based Stian Fjelldal, has featured on this blog many times before and is fast becoming a favourite of ours thanks to his experimental style and way with words. His latest gives us something a little different from him – a cover. Giving us his take on the Crowded House classic, it’s called Don’t Dream It’s Over.

With Don’t Dream It’s Over, Stian truly makes the track his own. A simmering, minimal intro gives way to gently plucked strings and his soft and distinctive vocals. The original lyrics take on an additional poignancy thanks to his delivery and the memorable melody of the chorus isn’t lost.

2023 has been a big year for Birds are better with the release of his album The Island – Part One. I can’t wait to see what 2024 brings from him!
