Rykarda Parasol is a San Francisco, USA-based artist who often teams up with Paris, France-based friend Marc Ottavi to make music from the heart. She’s just come to my attention thanks to the recent release of her latest single which channels the likes of Serge Gainsbourg and The Velvet Underground. It’s called A Gigolo’s Manifesto.

Lyrically, A Gigolo’s Manifesto explores the darker side of romance, and its narrator coldly rejects an over-interested lover. It draws from Rykarda’s own experience and personal growth, and is delicately delivered through a folk-rock arrangement that combine’s the ’60s with modern day. The expressive vocals are certainly the highlight. They’re utterly enchanting, and will stick with you long after the last note is played.
