With a nod to her studies in opera, Rykarda Parasol returns with a tribute to a legendary performer in her new single, Like Maria Callas.

We know Rykarda as an indie rock artist, but she certainly has layers. The San Francisco, USA-based musician first came to our attention through her The Velvet Underground-inspired collaboration with Marc Ottavi, A Gigolo’s Manifesto. Now she’s back with something different.

There’s still plenty of raucous, DIY energy in Like Maria Callas. Its melody punches nicely during a marching verse. A singalong chorus follows, full of laidback attitude. All the while a steady pop groove is maintained, and Rykarda’s vocals simply ooze with character and charisma.

As well as releasing a new single, Rykarda’s has also recently re-released her third album, Against the Sun, on vinyl exclusively via Bandcamp.
