Shockpowder is a dreamy rock and roll project based in London, creating genre-bending songs such as Flux. It’s a killer tune, appealing to listeners across the rock/metal spectrum, as well as those into their shoegaze. If you like our review of the track, this interview is for you!
By Jane Howkins
You recently released a new track called Flux. What can you tell us about the song?
All my songs are meant to capture sensations we feel in our dreams. Flux is that same exploration of feeling but sped up, it’s about exploring the realisation that life is never, ever still.
How has the reception to Flux been so far, and where can the track be purchased?
Pretty good! I’m really happy with it – once I started getting the hang of promotion, my songs started getting a decent amount of listeners, and not only that, but I’m so happy with the responses from fans who really connect with the music. For me, what people get out of listening to my music is the absolute best reason to keep doing it!!
Do you have any more singles planned for the near future?
I’ve actually got something much bigger that I’m announcing soon. Watch this space!!
Are there any plans to release an album or EP anytime soon?
I’ll announce this soon, but I think it’s time to unleash a brand new work into the world. It’s been such a journey this past couple of years, I’m really getting into my sound and reaching new minds.
Did you enjoy the holiday season? What does a typical Christmas look like in your household?
Christmas was okay. I love the vibes, the magic in the streets and the lights. I love going to cafes after dark this time of year.
Flux has a unique shoegaze vibe. What/who are you most influenced by? What have you been listening to recently?
I’m hugely inspired by Slowdive, Alcest and Jesu. I love that edgy ambience that somehow alienates while it comforts you.
You’re based in Aylesbury. What’s the local music scene like with you?
It used to be a lot more vibrant, but the covid years really damaged it. When I do play a show, it tends to be in neighbouring cities like St Albans.
Do you have anything else exciting coming up over the next few months?
I’m gearing up to start putting out new material again this year, and I’m so excited to show it to everyone. I think Shockpowder has grown more in the last year or so than ever, and I am really looking forward to keeping it going in that direction with new dreams.
Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?
Going on tour is something I’ve always wanted to do, but never managed. Maybe one day! It’s just so expensive and I’ve never been able to put anything together.
Any last words for the fans?
Meeting new fans has been incredible, and every one of them has been such a huge part of what I do. I can’t wait to meet more!
