Literary Classics Take the Stage at York Opera House

Macbeth – Mon 22 Jan | Tue 23 Jan

Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde – Wed 24 Jan

Romeo & Juliet – Thu 25 Jan

Dickens Theatre Company arrives in York later this month, bringing classic English Literature texts to the Grand Opera House stage.

Since 2015, DTC have been creating exciting stage adaptations of literary classics. Their magical performances breathe life into the stories, words and characters studied in the classroom. For many young people, watching a DTC show will be their first taste of theatre.

The company’s mission statement reveals its passion for bringing page to the stage…

“We bring the GCSE texts studied in the classroom off the page and onto the stage. We ignite a passion for these compulsory texts in our young people throughout nationwide learning programmes and unique, accessible adaptations.

We build sustainable partnerships with theatres and schools across the UK through our in-person workshops, post-performance Q&A sessions, Zoom workshops and streamed performances. We aim to reach all areas nationwide”.

The Grand Opera House is thrilled to be welcoming performances that are simultaneously educational and entertaining.  Macbeth, also known as the ‘Scottish Play’ was the first production performed at the venue at the reopening in 1989 and remains a popular classic for school children and adults alike.

As part of DTC’s ‘Revision on Tour’ (alongside Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde and Romeo & Juliet), Macbeth entertains and educates… to the bitter end.

“If you are studying Macbeth at GCSE…it all starts with this show.
A revelation for my English students”.
