London-based act APRE have featured a few times before on this blog, but we’ve not covered them since 2020. I’m pleased to have them back on the blog with a new single that questions the role of technology in modern society. It’s called IS THIS THE REAL WORLD?

Like it or not, the vast majority of us are now digitally-dependent. While there are upsides in terms of convenience, the downsides in terms of mental health and community connection are also undeniable. With their latest single, APRE invite us to take a moment to reflect on the situation and its potential consequences.

Though the subject matter is deep, musically the track has a lightness. There’s a steady electronic groove in the instrumentals, and they pair nicely with soulful vocals. A soaring, pleading chorus injects a sense of humanity into proceedings, and will linger in your mind long after the track has finished.
