Country Risqué are a San Francisco, USA-based band who have just come to my attention thanks to their tribute to pandemic-era disillusionment. The incredibly relatable second single from their upcoming debut album, it’s called Depression Drawer.
By Graeme Smith
Depression Drawer is a track that goes deep with its lyrics but softens its message through a lively and humorous style. There’s a timelessness to its honky-tonk arrangement and drawling vocals are full of character. Yet, it’s the lyrics that stand out the most for me. Heart-breakingly familiar, it’s one for all of us that would prefer to lock up our feelings than share them.
Country Risqué are Miles Gordon, Daniel Bromfield, Richard Moog, Tomas Georgiou and Danny Moriarty. Depression Drawer will feature on their album Doe-Eyed Loverboys & Saints, set for release 15 March via Rock in your Head Records. It’s produced by Sonny Smith, was recorded by Bryan Lovett, mixed by Robby Joseph, and mastered by Mikey Young.
