It’s pretty rare that we get to hear new music from Italy, so I was very excited to discover Of Shadows and Lights. Originally started in 2018, the project has recently been nominated for the Best Indie Rock Act category at the WIGWAM Online Radio Awards, showing great promise for the future! Their new EP, Poems From The Edge, shows exactly why their music has been so lauded – find out more below!

Starting out in fine fashion is opener, On The Ledge. It opens with a lovely synth melody, pulsating along in a fast fashion, before the smooth vocals arrive. The vocals are a real stand out point for Of Shadows and Lights, sounding absolutely perfect across all the tracks on this EP. The music slowly builds up, with some intriguing tribal drums kicking in after a while, making for something extremely anthemic. It’s pretty catchy at times, rising up to a singalong chorus.
Unbecoming is fairly similar to the previous track in terms of the opening, as it once again starts with a subtle synth melody. However, when the main chorus kicks in, the energy is ramped up even higher, making for one of the catchiest tracks on the entire EP. Just try and listen to it without wanting to sing along to the wonderful vocal lines! Unbecoming definitely has the potential to be a hit.
Into The Silence takes things in a slightly different direction. It’s much mellower than the previous tracks, having a more positive, up-tempo sound than what came before. The main chord sequence is infectious, seeing some lovely guitar arpeggios emerge, showing just how fantastic the songwriting is. This might just be my favourite song on the entire EP!
Emerge is the final track on the record, leaving you longing for more. It’s the heaviest song here, opening with a killer guitar lick, matched perfectly by the fast beat and bass. It’s really interesting to see Of Shadows And Lights branching out into the realm of hard rock, yet they seem to do it perfectly here, balancing heaviness and melody in equal measure. The higher vocal notes are particularly astounding, showing some raw talent.
Of Shadows And Lights is an act that are set for the bigtime, mixing multiple genres and styles together on their new EP, Poems From The Edge. Whether you’re into rock, indie, alt-rock, hard rock or pop, you should find something to love here!
