Melbourne, Australia-based singer songwriter Jewel Owusu has appeared on this blog a few times before, going back to 2021 when I discovered her music through her track Mixed Signals.

More recently, I ran the rule over her single b-day last summer and now she’s back with another new one, happyforyou. It’s a track that shows her evolution as an artist, giving the alternative pop genre a fresh lick of paint thanks to its bright, breezy yet emotionally deep arrangement. Enhanced vocals suggest a hint of hyperpop while it remains reassuringly accessible, and its soaring chorus will stick with you.

Jewel has a big year of live performances lined up in Australia for 2024, including headlining the new music stage at St Kilda Fest, as well as some new releases for us fans from further afield.
