New Music: Sandi Thom – Revolution Anthem (Festival of the Oppressed)

Few won’t recognise the name Sandi Thom. She came to prominence in 2006 with her smash hit I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker (with Flowers in My Hair). If you ever found yourself wondering what she did next, well the truth is that she never went away.

By Graeme Smith

Sandi has been releasing a steady stream of albums ever since, the most recent being 2019’s Ghosts. She’s never lost that rebellious spirit either, and her latest track feels like it’s picking up very much where I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker left off. And it feels more needed today than it even was back then.

Revolution Anthem takes aim at everything and everyone from Brexit to Russia, from Trump to Truss. It’s folk sound is perfect for the subject matter and will rouse you to want to take action.

The track will be out 22 March on streaming platforms (pre-order here) as is available as an NFT now. You can give it a listen below.
