Discovery: Erica Dee Mah

Erica Dee Mah is a Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada-based artist who has just hit my radar through the lead single from her upcoming new EP Paper Wealth.

The Garden is a tribute to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden in Vancouver’s Chinatown. A Chinese-Canadian herself, she’s become known for playing the guzheng, a traditional 21-stringed Chinese zither. Erica brings the space to life in her new piece with some descriptive storytelling and an unconventional arrangement that rises and falls like the cycles of nature. Eastern and Western folk traditions come together in the composition in a way I’ve never heard before.

Paper Wealth is set for release 8 May and, based on the evidence of The Garden, it’s one not to be missed. You can check out the single below.
