EP Review: Jordan Whitmore – One Breath

Country singer-songwriter Jordan Whitmore released her EP, One Breath, at the end of February. We somehow missed it when it first came out, but I’m glad I had the chance to check it out later, as it really is an amazing piece of work. The record is raw and passionate, displaying a raw vulnerability often missing from modern country music.

The record opens up with the title track, One Breath. It’s a lovely introduction to Jordan’s sound, featuring a nice set of strummed acoustic guitar chords underneath Jordan’s vocals. A faint banjo can be heard at times, but the focal point remains on Jordan’s wonderful voice throughout, as she sings her tale of woe here.

Next up is is See. It’s a rather hopeful song, written during the depths of winter, with the lyrics reminding the listener that there is always hope hidden in the darkness. A nice piano melody appears on this track, underpinning the vocals and acoustic guitar well – it’s present, but it never takes over the song, as all the instruments work together to create something totally harmonious.

Last up is Rise Up – it starts out in a pretty stripped-down manner, with just the faint sound of Jordan’s acoustic guitar, accompanied by her stirring vocals. It’s a song about gaining resilience during mental health episodes, and you can really feel the emotion in this artist’s voice here. It’s raw yet soulful, promising great things for Jordan’s future.

If that sounds good, then why not give One Breath a go below?!
